What are Pocketfold Wedding Invitations?
Let’s start at the beginning … what exactly are Pocketfold Wedding Invitations and how do they work?
Simply put, a pocketfold invitation is a folded wedding invitation rather than a flat card. When opened, it reveals a beautifully presented fixed invitation panel alongside a pocket designed to hold up to three loose insert cards.
The fixed invitation panel contains the main details of your wedding, such as your names, the date, time and venue. The pocket can then be used to neatly organise any additional information, including RSVP cards, accommodation details, directions, gift information or extra guest instructions.
This layout creates a lovely experience for your guests. When they open the invitation, their attention is naturally drawn first to the main invitation panel. They can then browse through the insert cards at their own pace, making it easy to find all the important details they need.
What makes them stand out?
What makes pocketfold invitations stand out from other wedding invitation styles is this combination of a folded design, a fixed invitation panel and a practical pocket for loose inserts. They offer both elegance and organisation, making them a popular choice for couples who want their invitations to feel special while keeping everything neatly presented.
The Three Different Pocketfold Formats
Now that we’ve covered the basic concept of a pocketfold invitation, the next step is to look at the different formats available.
All of our pocketfold style wedding invitations share the same core design: they open out to reveal a fixed invitation panel and a pocket for inserts. However, the overall format can vary depending on the look and style you prefer.
As standard, we offer three different pocketfold formats:
Portrait Pocketfolds
Landscape Pocketfolds
Pocketcards
Below we explore each of these formats in more detail to help you decide which style is the perfect fit for your wedding invitations.
Portrait Pocketfold
Our Portrait Pocketfold Style Wedding Invitations open out lengthways. Once open, the invitation panel is in the centre and the pocket is below.
Landscape Pocketfold
Our Landscape Pocketfold Style Wedding Invitations open out sideways. Once open, the invitation panel is in the centre and the pocket is to the right.
Pocketcard
Our Pocketcard Style Wedding Invitations open out like a classic folded card. Once open the invitation panel is to the right and the pocket is to left.
What Shape and Size are our Pocketfolds?
Our standard, all three of our Pocketfold Style Wedding Invitation formats are square and measure 145 x 145mm when folded.
Other shapes and sizes are available on request.
How Many Inserts Can a Pocketfold Hold?
Our Pocketfold Wedding Invitations include two loose insert cards as standard, giving you plenty of space for additional wedding information alongside your main invitation.
If you need a little extra room, they can comfortably hold up to three insert cards. We find this provides the perfect balance between including all the important details and maintaining a neat, elegant presentation.
Because we use premium-quality card, adding a fourth insert would make the pocket too much of a tight squeeze. If you have more information to include, don’t worry – we can often print your insert cards double-sided, allowing you to fit in additional details without overcrowding the pocket.
If you’re unsure how to fit everything in, we’re always happy to advise on the best layout and wording to ensure your invitations look beautiful while including everything your guests need to know.
Pocketfold Wedding Invitation Wording Tips
As we mentioned above, our pocketfold wedding invitations can hold upto three loose inserts, plus the invitation page. But what wording goes inside? Honestly, it depends on your wedding. We are happy to personalise the wording and inserts to suit you. Besides the main invitation here are some ideas for your loose inserts:

Top Tip!
Try not to overload your guests with too much information, too soon.
Don’t tell them your menu choices if they don’t have an option – you’ll just be opening yourselves upto special requests and complaints! Also, you don’t have to include a full order of day in advance if you don’t want to. Quite often plans can change so don’t tie yourself in too soon by committing to a timeline on your invitations.
How to Personalise our Pocketfold Invitations
All of our designs are available in any colour.
Personalising your Pocketfold Wedding Invitations with us is a really simple process.
Simply choose your favourite format and style from our design gallery, click to request a free sample and on the enquiry form simply let us know what colour you’d like it to be. We’re happy to mix and match different styles, colours, embellishments and fonts.
On the Front Cover
Our portrait and landscape pocketfolds suit a ‘personalised plaque’ on the cover really well. The plaques measure 70 x 70mm as standard. The front cover of our pocketcards have a larger plaque that measures 125 x 125mm so there’s a lot more space for wording. All three formats can cope with ribbon, lace and other embellishments.
The cover plaque on your invitations can include the words ‘Wedding Invitation’ and your names or initials and your wedding date. We’ve also printed quotes too. Let us know your ideas and we can help.
Card Options
When finalising your invitation design the first choice you need to make is what card you’d like to use. We offer a wide selection of card colours in smooth, textured and pearlised finishes. If you’d like us to send you some swatches in your colour scheme before seeing a sample please get in touch.
You can choose different cards for your pocketfold base, mount cards and printed inserts. If you have quite a few colours you’d like to incorporate we can look at adding extra layers of mount cards for you.
Ribbon Options
Once you’ve picked the card(s) you’d like to use then we can look at ribbon.
Do you even want ribbon on your invitations? If so then we have a few different options to choose from:
Flat Ribbon
Bows – 3mm, 7mm, 10mm, 15mm, 25mm & 35mm
Knotted Ribbon
Embellishments
Simple clear round diamantes or ivory pearls are free of charge.
Fancier embellishments are a small added charge. These include items such as lace, belly bands and ribbon buckles.
How Much do Pocketfold Invites Cost?
So the all important question … How much do Pocketfold Invites actually cost?
Our Pocketfold Style Invitations start from £5.00 each which included matt white or ivory envelopes for posting. This includes 2 loose inserts as standard. If you wanted to include an extra mout inside, ribbon and a plaque on the cover they would be around £6.00 each as a guideline. Our prices are per invitation – not per guest.
Feel free to visit our pricing page for more details.
As a comparison, a Flat Invitation, with a mount card are £2.00 so there is a bit of a difference in price. However, with a flat invitation you simply have one side of print and there’s not a lot of space for added guest information.
A pocketfold generally provides 4-5 sides of print (cover, invitation and upto 3 x inserts). Not only do we need to consider the costs of extra card stock and printing but all of these take us time to design, format and proof for you which we have to take into consideration too.
Pocketfold invitations are ideal if you have menu choices. need accommodation information, want RSVP postcards, have transport details and want a luxury invitation. They are probably not the best choice if you you only need to provide ceremony and venue details or if you’re working to a tight budget.
Pocketfold Invitations

- Great for Lots of Information
- Often Higher Postage
Flat Invitations
Ideal for Evening Guests- Single Card

- Best for Minimal Wording

How many Pocketfold Invitations do you need?
Our invitations are priced per invitation – not per guest. So, for example if you are inviting 60 guests to your wedding day you’ll probably only need around 30-40 invitations. You only need to send 1 invitation per couple, family or household.
Also, in our experience most of our couples only order Pocketfold invitations for their wedding day guests.
For your evening guests we’d usually recommend a more simple flat style invitation. They will be designed to match your wedding invitations in terms of your card, font and embellishment choices.
