Idodesigns’ Guide to Wedding Stationery Materials

We get asked a lot about the materials we use for wedding invitations and other stationery. Why we use what we use, and which materials are the best for different designs. It’s no secret that we only supply high quality wedding stationery and have spent a long time sourcing the materials than make your designs stand out and last for a long time.

It’s the biggest thing that sets us apart from our competitors!

What are the Best Materials for Wedding Invitations?

When deciding what to make custom wedding stationery with, we do everything possible to balance cost and quality.

Making diamond-encrusted wedding invites for the rich and famous sounds like fun but creating quality stationery that matches the budgets of everyday people is what we’d rather do. But we always make sure our invitations and stationery are quality and last for longer than just one day.

The main thing is choosing thick, weighty card. Some stationery providers use cheap, thin card or even glitter paper. This may look nice in an online gallery, but it might not even survive the drop from a letterbox, never mind a drop of rain!

‘Our cards are all weighted for quality – between 250-350gsm.’

Glitter paper looks great, and can save you money, but as soon as you hold it in your hands you can tell certainly tell the difference. Our cards are all weighted for quality and luxury feel – between 250- 350gsm. Because we offer free samples of all our wedding invitations, you get a chance to feel the materials with your very own hands, before you make the final decision to buy.

Idodesigns Glitter

Glitter – You either love it or hate it! Always choose quality glitter card

The tape and glue we use is all professional craft standard too. Even after years of being stuck in a box or drawer (our invitations are always worth keeping!) everything will be stuck together and still looking great.

Your wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime event, if you can invest a little extra in quality stationery, it will certainly not go unnoticed by your guests and will help make your special day truly memorable. And remember – we’ll always try to match your budget!

The Texture

We’ve already mentioned the weight of our cards and the second thing you’ll notice is the texture. Even the basic card we use for our classic flats has a superior feel. Our cards have a texture or pearlised finish for added luxury.

Our range of colours and textures is extensive; using handmade, recycled cards, textured and pearlised card and paper… even card with wildflower or coffee seeds in! We are always happy to send out free card swatches with our free personalised samples.

Any inserts in our pocket fold or wallet designs are always on card, never paper, so they are just as tough. Our paper inserts in folded designs are heavy weight pearlised or textured to match with the invitation card.

Whether you want your invitations to feel silky smooth or rough and rustic, we can create anything you’d like with our bespoke design service!

The Colour

When you and your invitees open an envelope and reveal an invitation, they should be wowed from the first glance. Colour is the way to do that. Even if you choose a more traditional white, cream or silver it can still stand out.

We recommend using complimentary colours for your custom invitations, never just one or it’ll look too plain and flat. Just by adding a touch or silver, gold or copper can really make a difference.

Folded Wedding Invite

‘Even traditional white, cream or silver can still stand out!’

All designs on the website can have colours changed to match your colour scheme at no extra cost. We want your stationery to stand out in the right way, not by clashing!

If you want your stationery to be a lot bolder, bright colours and glitter are the way to go! If you are a gay couple, you can embrace the rainbow to really show that your wedding is a must-attend event!

The Shape

Speaking of bold, if you want to try something stylish, why not make your wedding invitations a unique shape? Just because most invitations are square or rectangular doesn’t mean yours have to be!

Don’t cut corners – make them curved!

You don’t see circular wedding invites every day!

A curved corner adds a lot to the style factor, or why not make your invitations circular? Imagine the look on your loved one’s faces when one of those pops out of the envelope!

‘Just becuase most invitations are square or rectangular doesn’t mean yours have to be!’

With our bespoke design service, you can create anything you can imagine no matter how bold.

The Accessories

When it comes to ribbons, quality goes a long way

Our favourite part of the design process is adding custom-made accessories, even when they’re fiddly to stick down! There is a wide range of choice with these additions, so here is a list of what we offer:

  • Ribbons & Lace
  • Bows & Twine
  • Flowers & Leaves
  • Buckles & Sliders
  • Diamante Embellishments
  • Pearls & Diamantes
  • Bellybands & Plaques
  • Wax Seal

Just like our base materials, all accessories are high-quality crafts, although we can’t stop real flowers from wilting! All ribbons are quality double satin, berisford, shindo or satab so they’re as special as the card they’re attached to.

Only the Best for You

There are few stationery providers who go above and beyond when it comes to sourcing high quality materials. We also focus on communication, especially when creating a design from scratch, so the finished product is nothing short of perfect.
