At Idodesigns, we love all weddings, of all shapes and sizes. But when it comes to creating bespoke wedding stationery, weird, wild, and wonderful weddings are our favourite. Today we’re going to talk about fun wedding themes and how your invitations and day stationery can compliment them.

Why a Theme is Important for Weddings

When you’re planning your special day, you need a theme to design your stationery around.

This can be as simple as a colour scheme that matches flower arrangements, or some of the fun themes we’ll be talking about later.

If you have a theme in mind, some of the hundreds of decisions you and your partner need to make become a lot easier. You can choose existing designs from our galleries or create your own from scratch using our bespoke design service.

We recommend choosing a consistent theme for all your wedding stationery. This prevents clashing colours and styles and helps everything blend together when the displays are complete.

How to Pick a Theme for a Wedding

With so many ways to make your wedding special, it can be difficult to choose one that suits you. Many couples choose the ‘big white wedding’ purely because that’s what they’ve always imagined when thinking about their wedding day. These look amazing, of course, but if you’re willing to push the boat out the results are fantastic.

Here are some of the themes you can choose from:

  • Films & TV
  • Books
  • Celebrities
  • Locations
  • Time Period
  • Rainbow
  • Sports
  • And many more!

Even something as simple as creative table names can produce a fun theme. Name your tables after your favourite books, films, or characters, and it’ll be a fun bonus for your guests.

We’ll talk about all of these themes soon, but there’s one theme in particular that makes a wedding day one to remember.

‘You’ Themed Weddings

One theme that every wedding has is ‘you and your partner’. It’s one day (and night!) that’s all about you; a chance to express your personalities. So why not make the theme of your wedding ‘you’?

We’re not suggesting plastering posters of your face on the walls, although don’t be afraid to include photos on your day stationery! You can theme your wedding around your life, and the time you’ve spent with your partner.

Here’s an example: why not name your tables after locations that mean a lot to you? It could be where you first met, where you’ve been on holiday together, even where you or your partner proposed! You can then use this for your seating plan too, putting people who also have connections to those places together. It’s a lot of fun!

We can create table name cards that represent each of these locations, without clashing with other designs. They can complement your place cards too.

TV and Film Themed Weddings

We all have our passions, and they’re best when shared with others. If you and your partner love some of the same things, why not make them the theme of you wedding?

A while back, we were approached by a couple who loved the TV show FRIENDS. Naturally, we jumped at the chance to produce FRIENDS themed wedding stationery, and they looked amazing!

They named each table after locations in FRIENDS!

If, like us, you can never decide which is your favourite film or show, you can name your tables after multiple! The Game of Thrones table may be a little chaotic, but the Downton Abbey one will have the best-dressed guests!

Speaking of dress codes, you can always make yours match the theme too. If you like the vintage look, encourage your guests to match the style. You could even suggest fancy dress! It’ll make your special day one to remember.

Rainbow Theme for Same Sex Weddings

Rainbow themed wedding invitations are always the most colourful!

We love creating stationery for gay weddings, they’re always unique and extra stylish.

The best theme for same sex weddings is, of course, the rainbow. Your wedding stationery can be any colour you can imagine, or any combination.

We always encourage our clients to make the theme clear in their wedding invitations. These are sent out around 6 weeks before the big day. They give your guests a taste of your chosen theme and give them an idea of what to expect. If send out off-the-shelf invitations, then have bold day stationery, you will confuse your guests.

If you’re LGBT and want to embrace the rainbow theme for your wedding, tell your guests to turn up in the brightest colours they own! Then you can even name your tables after colours!

Beach Wedding Theme

This one may sound odd, but a beach themed wedding can look amazing. If you’re one of the lucky couples getting married this summer, why not embrace a summer theme?

Now, ‘beach’ doesn’t have to mean bikinis and swim trunks. It can mean summer flowers, bright colours, and maybe a scattering of sand if your venue doesn’t mind!

We’ve all seen pictures of beach wedding ceremonies; don’t they look amazing? They can be tricky to organise, and you’re more at the mercy of the weather than an indoor wedding. By bringing the beach to you, you don’t have to worry about the wind, or getting sand in your shoes!

The Best Theme for Weddings

With so many amazing themes to choose from, it’s easy to make your wedding unique. It’s an opportunity for you a couple to express themselves, and make their ceremony, dinner, and reception more fun and memorable for guests.

Whatever your theme, you need invitations and day stationery that suit. We love to create new and bold designs, no matter the theme.

If you have any questions about us or any of our designs, please feel free to get in touch. In the meantime, check out our blog for more information and inspiration.
